Swimming In Physical Education

Advanced Skills
Levels V & VI

Levels Five and Six begin and complete work on stroke proficiency. The sidestroke, butterfly and breaststroke are refined, as well as the competitive turns for each of the strokes. Placement of your child will depend on their strength in the strokes.

Depending on facilities, springboard diving may also be included as a skill.

bulletElementary backstroke (25-50 yards )
butterfly swimmer

bulletBreaststroke (10-50 yards)

bulletSidestroke (10-50 yards)

bulletButterfly (10-50 yards)

bulletFront and back crawl flip turns

bulletTread water 3-5 minutes

bulletPike and tuck surface dives

bulletFeet first surface dive

bulletBreaststroke and sidestroke turn

bulletStride jump entry

bulletSwim under water 15 yards

bulletBrick retrieval

 

A final exit test will be administered to pass the Level VI Personal Water Safety class. This test consists of the following:

500 yd swim in this order: 100 yd front crawl, 100 yd back crawl, 50 yd breaststroke, 50 yd elementary backstroke, 50 yd sidestroke, 50 yd butterfly, 100 yd choice
